The logo redesign focused on refreshing the brand’s visual identity while honoring its strong heritage and premium positioning.

The Challenge

I was challenged to redesign a logo for a brand of my choice. The logo should be distinct, memorable, timeless, scalable, adaptable, and appropriate for the brand use.

The Solution

I decided to redesign a logo for a Vietnamese coffee brand named Trung Nguyen. I took inspiration from the designs on Dong Son drums, like the ancient human figures, long-tailed flying birds (Lac birds) to represent the longevity and the culture of Vietnamese people.

The Explorations
The Human

The geometric-shaped human figure was inspired by the pattern on Dong Son bronze drum, with the hands holding a coffee plant. The pose of the figure represents the appreciation to the nature resources.

The Lightning Bean

The coffee bean with the negative shape of the lightning represents the benefits of coffee, it boosts your energy, and keeps you awake.

The Highlands

This logo represents Dak Lak province, widely considered as “the coffee capital of Vietnam”, it is also known as the elephant land. The negative space is the stilt house, a traditional house type of the Ede ethnic minority of the province.
